What better way to celebrate the holiday than to actively give to the conservation of national treasures – the life within our National Parks? For more information\, visit the national park website. \n \nWhy Count Birds?\nAs the holiday season approaches\, volunteers across the country will celebrate the gift of natural wonder by taking part in the Annual Christmas Bird Count (CBC). Administered by the National Audubon Society\, the event is the longest running Citizen Science survey in the world. For many\, counting winter birds has become a family tradition. Holiday spirit and love of birds has compelled generations – and now invites us- to don the cap of citizen scientist and contribute to conservation. \nThe Christmas Bird Count was started by Frank Chapman and other conservationists on Christmas Day of 1900. Over the years\, the effort has evolved into a valuable tool for monitoring winter bird populations in North America. The CBC database\, containing over 100 years of data\, is accessible to the public and provides critical information for perusal or scientific research. Data gathered by caring citizens will inform policies that protect endangered populations and crucial habitats. Educational outreach can help individuals or organizations make informed decisions about conservation. The Audubon Society lists the following three goals for the CBC: \n\n\nEngage citizens in gathering information.\nEmpower citizens to take action on behalf of places important to them and important to wildlife.\nFoster a new culture of conservation\n\n\nEnjoy a full weekend at Bryce Canyon City.

This eclipse will be visible for millions of people in the Western Hemisphere.\n\n\nAn annular solar eclipse happens when the Moon covers the Sun’s center\, leaving the Sun’s visible outer edges to form a “ring of fire” or annulus around the Moon. \nDuring an annular eclipse\, it is never safe to look directly at the Sun without specialized eye protection designed for solar viewing. Review these safety guidelines to prepare for Oct. 14\, 2023. \nOn Oct. 14\, 2023\, the annular eclipse will begin in the United States\, traveling from the coast of Oregon to the Texas Gulf Coast. DESCRIPTION:Event Description\n\n\nPlease join Bryce Canyon City and Ruby’s Inn at our annual Canyon 2 Canyon Bike Ride. The Canyon 2 Canyon event is a Family Fun Bike ride. We are inviting the bikers to come and ride the trail and enjoy the beauty of the two canyons. Starting at Bryce Canyon’s Inspiration Point and ending in Red Canyon- 17 miles trail. \nThis event will be held on the 4th Saturday of August each year. \n\nThe 2022 Canyon 2 Canyon Bike Ride Event registration is available now!\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDon’t have your own bike? No worries! Bikes are available to rent at the Sinclair Station\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPlease arrive at your scheduled time to check-in. Check-in table will open at 6:45am on August 27\, 2022 located on the grass area next to the Bryce Canyon Shuttle Station at 165 South Main. Registration is $5 per person (kids ages 5 and under are free) which includes a T-Shirt and prizes. If bikers would like to begin inside the park\, park passes need to be purchased at the Bryce Canyon Shuttle during operating hours. \nThe bikers wanting to start at Inspiration Point will be shuttled into Bryce Canyon National Park by the Bryce Canyon Shuttle Station. Ruby’s Inn will transport bikes to designated starting points. \nMasks will be mandatory in ALL shuttles and around the registration area. \nHelmets are mandatory for all participants under the age of 17. Safety is our number 1 priority to keep our participants and volunteers safe. \nThere will be two separate starting points. Astronomy festivals feature family-friendly daytime activities and ranger-led evening programs and constellation tours. Bring your entire family to the Bryce Canyon Astronomy Festival. \n  \n\n\n\n\nDaytime Activities\nDaytime activities include activity tents\, solar telescopes\, and other opportunities open to the public at the Visitor Center between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. each day of the festival. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nEvening Programs\nEvening Programs are the only festival events that require a free ticket. Pick up a ticket the day of the program at the Visitor Center Information Desk. Programs are held at 8:30 p.m. and 9 p.m. each night\, and the location is shared when you pick up your ticket. See Schedule of Events above for program details. \n\n\n\n\n\nTelescope Stargazing Site\nThis year’s telescope site will be located within the park across the street from the Visitor Center. It will be open each night of the festival from 10 p.m. to midnight and is open to the public. DESCRIPTION:Utah Prairie Dog Day Returns to Bryce Canyon on May 11 \n \nNo celebration of Bryce Canyon’s centennial year would be complete without a special day for one of its keystone species. Prairie Dog Day will return on Thursday\, May 11 and feature ranger-led prairie dog viewing\, family-friendly activity booths\, and a special keynote presentation. For a detailed schedule of events\, please visit go.nps.gov/UtahPrairieDogDay. \n  \nTo help promote the event\, the park is holding a prairie dog art contest open to all students kindergarten through 12th grade in Garfield\, Wayne\, and Kane counties. Art contest submissions will be judged in three different grade categories\, and the winner in each category will receive a $50 gift certificate to the Bryce Canyon Association Visitor Center bookstore.
